چکیده

A recently proposed method for the pairwise comparison of arbitrary independent random variables results in a probabilistic relation. When restricted to discrete random variables uniformly distributed on finite multisets of numbers, this probabilistic relation expresses the winning probabilities between pairs of hypothetical dice that carry these numbers and exhibits a particular type of transitivity called dicetransitivity. In case these multisets have equal cardinality, two alternative methods for statistically comparing the ordered lists of the numbers on the faces of the dice have been studied recently: the comonotonic method based upon the comparison of the numbers of the same rank when the lists are in increasing order, and the countermonotonic method, also based upon the comparison of only numbers of the same rank but with the lists in opposite order. In terms of the discrete random variables associated to these lists, these methods each turn out to be related to a particular copula that joins the marginal cumulative distribution functions into a bivariate cumulative distribution function. The transitivity of the generated probabilistic relation has been completely characterized. In this paper, the list comparison methods are generalized for the purpose of comparing arbitrary random variables. The transitivity properties derived in the case of discrete uniform random variables are shown to be generic. Additionally, it is shown that for a collection of normal random variables, both comparison methods lead to a probabilistic relation that is at least moderately stochastic transitive.

Bivariate Copula Decomposition in Terms of Comonotonicity, Countermonotonicity and Independence

Copulas are statistical tools for modelling the multivariate dependence structure among variables in a distribution free way. This paper investigates bivariate copula structure, the existence and uniqueness of bivariate copula decomposition in terms of a comonotonic, an independent, a countermonotonic, and an indecomposable part are proved, while the coefficients are determined by partial deriv...

Multivariate dependence modeling based on comonotonic factors

Comonotonic latent variables are introduced into general factor models, in order to allow non-linear transformations of latent factors, so that various multivariate dependence structures can be captured. Through decomposing each univariate marginal into several components, and letting some components belong to different sets of comonotonic latent variables, a great variety of multivariate model...

A Comonotonic Image of Independence for Additive Risk Measures

This paper presents a new axiomatic characterization of risk measures that are additive for independent random variables. In contrast to previous work, we include an axiom that guarantees monotonicity of the risk measure. Furthermore, the axiom of additivity for independent random variables is related to an axiom of additivity for comonotonic random variables. The risk measure characterized can...

The Visual Transitivity System in Two ELT Books Series

The present study aims to investigate the system of the visual transitivity by analyzing the images of American English file (2014) and Cutting edge (2005) series based on Halliday’s (1976) systemic functional linguistics and Kress and van leuween’s (1997-2006) social semiotics. The system of visual transitivity refers to a type of process which determines how represented participants are label...

Comonotonic Bounds on the Survival Probabilities in the Lee-carter Model for Mortality Projection

In the Lee-Carter framework, future survival probabilities are random variables with an intricate distribution function. In large homogeneous portfolios of life annuities, Value-at-Risk or Conditional Tail Expectation of the total yearly payout of the company are approximately equal to the corresponding quantities involving random survival probabilities. This paper aims to derive some bounds in...
